Obrigado!

One Sunday Morning our usual 40 minute walk to church seemed more like forever and 2 days in the rain as it slickened the cobblestones. Even the wind was whipping at my tired face and hurting feet (on purpose I surmised). We arrived a bit late and I added that on top of my encumbered thoughts and soaking wet hair (inspite of my new green unbrella).  AND THEN... I saw Sondra.

She came on cobblestones, through the same rain, the same wind and the same cold...with her prosthetic legs, her crutches, with her soaking wet hair... and her SMILE. Thank you Sondra for changing me.

The last week has been crazy full of finding addresses and members.  We have had some good visits and we have had some visits.  I can't even imagine what trials people must go through in life to be unkind to people through a door.  But, I know that Covid has made alot of people fearful and I am sad that they live in such fear. We had a great meeting on Sunday after regular meetings...when Grandpa taught Family History to some of our Branch Leaders.  He is so good to share his gifts and talents and I admire his hard work and dedication to the details in all that he does. He spent years to develop an app that is on the FamilySearch.org site called: TreeFind.org ...but one week before our mission, he gave ownership of the site to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.  Students there can use it for internships and they were pleased to have such a gift. Thank you Elder Benedict for teaching me about hard work and patience and generosity.  I love my companion!

After our Young Adult Activity this past week, we received a Thank You note from Djodjo.  He cannot know what a blessing that thoughtful text means to us.  It really is the small things that we do for each other that help all of us celebrate the normal days of life into something very special.

Grandpa bought two cakes while I was preparing for the young adult activity. He had asked if a bakery could decorate them...but in the end, he put a jar of jam in our young adult bag thinking to paint designs on the cakes himself?!  I wondered why the jar of jam ended up in our bag?! What a fun surprise that he remembered the anniversary of the day he purposed to me and so when he pulled the cakes out of a sack from under his coat, we (with the young adults) ate cake together for dessert! Thank You Stan for your thoughtfulness.  (and for not writing messages all over the cakes with jam!) ha!  Our children muse at us sometimes for celebrating the anniversary of our first date, our engagement, our wedding anniversary (when we remember!) but, every day that we can celebrate in this life (even in little moments on any old normal, average days), we should! Why Not!?!

We are so Thankful for the blessings of family, friends, colors, and the food that God has given us to gladden our hearts and give us energy to learn more and love more.  MUITO OBRIGADO!
